26 May 2008 - High Altitude continued.
The views at this altitude are so crystal clear (as is the air) and we keep pinching ourselves to remind us we are really here. The snow is still very much in evidence and temperatures to match. Ya'll come!!

Colorado High Country
26 May 2008 - Memorial Day
Becky and I drove up to this area about 10 miles from our campground today and thought we might go for a short hike. Well between an elevation of 10800 feet msl and temperatures in the 40's we settled for the views and a VERY short walk. We'll go back in better temps (and better physical condition at altitude!).

Creede Colorado
Creede is 7 miles north of our campground. These are some of the views from the town.
In case Dave, Lori and Matty are interested in a true mountain home, we found this Elementary School in Creede. You must admit it is a rather unique school building and setting but everyone agrees it is REALLY bitter in winter. Not for the faint of heart (like me and my bride).

Off to Colorado
26 May 2008 - We finally headed west (and up) to Colorado. That was a terribly long uphill drag across Kansas!!! However we finally made it and here is the first installment of photos. More to follow.
This is the view of Kansas from the freeway - pick a mile marker.
We finally made it into Colorado but it took a while for the views to change. Becky finally spotted the mountains!!
This is the view from our campground on a 'cloudy' day. At 8400 feet clouds are always a possibility.
Yesterday when we came home from a visit to Creede this bighorn was on the hill behind our site.
