New Air & Space Center near Dulles

24 October 2007 - I have noted our visit to the new Air & Space Center near Dulles and these are the photos to remind me of that visit.

This is a shot of the interior and it was awesome!

Needless to say the Blackbird is something to behold. Rated multiple phoots!

Of a different age but absolutely beautiful was this old polished Pan American Clipper!!

Most of us are aware of what Voyager looks like (Rutan's first round-the-world non-stop airplane) but I had not really had a good view of the first Solo trip in another Rutan plane - Global Flyer. Looks like Fossett is lost to the world now!

Another highlight was the Shuttle. I thought it would be larger than it is but absolutely overwhelming anyway!

You old folks remember the flotation collar used to keep the spacecraft from sinking after landing in the ocean? Remember when it DIDN'T have one?

Shot of GlobalFlyer and the Concord.

Most folks have seen the Wright Flyer (or replicas) but ever seen a Model B?

They have a 'Control Tower' in the Center and this is the view out the window.

And finally, a little artistic touch at the entrance to the Center.
