Every year Grandfather Mountain puts on a free all day Gospel Singing with some outstanding groups performing Bluegrass Gospel and a message from a visiting minister. See www.grandfathermountain.com for details. It is privately owned by the heirs of Hugh MacRae Morton who passed away in June 2006. He inheirited the mountain from his grandfather and is the one who developed the mountain. He is quoted as saying he never felt he really 'owned' the mountain - merely kept it for the general public to use. His heirs have vowed to continue his vision including the annual Gospel Singing. This is some of the crowd in 2006 ignoring the rain to enjoy the music.
The rain did not dampen the spirit of the performers or the crowd. Note the two little girls playing the fiddle. This is them performing a song the older one wrote and recorded on CD. They are children of a singing family we much enjoyed.
Note the little girl practicing even though she has already completed her performanc. Mom looks on. In the final photo you can see Grandfather Mountain in the background. Worth the drive!!!
