Corn Palace in Mitchell South Dakota

This is over 100 years old (not this one but one on site) and is 'redone' every year. It is created by cutting corn in half and nailing it onto the wood frame (after first removing last year's of course). They also use corn stalks and grains of several types. A different theme is chosen and an artist selected to produce the scene on paper which is then transferred to large grids and it becomes a 'paint by number' project. It typically cost $100,000 to produce and photos of all previous ones are on display in the building. The building itself is used as a convention center, stage and court games - basketball, etc. Truly one of a kind.
