Falls Park, SD

This is Falls Park, SD. The visitor center for the city is here and is the site of the oldest settlement. There was one hydoelectric generator which used the falls which can be seen as the small building. It continued to be used until the 50's when it was abandoned. The city has recently initiated a shuttle service from this area to downtown. It runs every 30 minutes and is free for the asking. The news last night (16 August) ran a story of a group of businessmen who want to develop the area just south of this park (between the park and downtown) over a ten year phasing. Sounds like a great idea and would create an area on the land where the town originally stood. There is also a bike path in the park which circles the old and new area of town which is paved and goes through some 6 or 8 parks as it makes its way around the city. We rode a few miles of it and it was a perfect path. It follows the river and also a canal they built to bypass the city and divert some of the flow so it is almost completely flat and is some 20 miles or so long.
