FL Wright's Farm in Wisconsin

Becky enjoyed her tour of the FL Wright home near Spring Green. The visitor center is right on the Wisconsin River as is Wright’s home. I have selected a few shots of the house and grounds as examples of the house but, as usual, you ‘had to be there’. The last photo was taken to show how Wright was ‘training’ his students. They built the bottom rows without direction and then Wright had them change the design to show them a different effect. This is a section of Wisconsin not to be missed if you are ever ‘in the area’. After driving through flat country for what seemed days (and more of the same to come) it is a freak of the ice age that this portion of Wisconsin is very hilly with a varied landscape. For some reason the glaciers moving south spread apart here and left this as some of the oldest ‘original’ land in the US. The Wisconsin flows into the Mississippi not too far away and is said to be quite a fishing stream including small mouths.

That is an exterior wall where Wright was letting the students design the wall. They laid some rows of rock and then he had them 'extend' some of the rock in the next rows and then 'stagger' the exposed on the higher rows. He left it all instead of having them tear out the bottom rows and rebuild them. The slot is just a 'feature'.
