Lincoln's Home in Springfield

The next stop was Lincoln's home. The streets are much as they were in 1865 including the wooden sidewalks. The house has been kept exactly as the Lincoln's left it after Lincoln was killed and most of the furnishings are original or very good reproductions of the original - including the wallpaper, drapes, etc. Not a huge house but has what we now call a family room where Abe played with his two boys. It appears he was not much for discipline as stories were told of the boys causing havoc both here and in Abe's law office in town. The Lincoln Museum is pictured in the last photo and provides a good honest portrayal of Lincoln's problems before and after being elected. We also visited the Lincoln Library which we enjoyed. The sections on genealogy were particularly good.

Nancy, it reminded me a lot of one of the better frame houses of the 50's in Arkansas. The major distinction was probably the furnishings - they were certainly 'a cut above'. The house itself was likely very nice for the 1800's but nothing compared to many British homes of the same period. We were still in the 'colonies' stage of our development.
